Welcome...

phoenix signSince opening doors in 1996, the New Phoenix Theatre on the Park has gained a reputation for award-winning, interdisciplinary theatre and for our continued support of new work and developing artists. Our mission is to present both classical and contemporary plays in ways that speak to our community, to rediscover the theatrical experience through the spirit of collaboration, and to revitalize the neighborhood in which our theatre stands.

Last season opened with the long-awaited IN A DARK DARK HOUSE, a play by Neil LaBute that is “almost shrinkwrapped in tension” (Newsday) – and continued with two area premieres – including OUR SONG by Keith Waterhouse, the British playwright, novelist, and journalist who died last year - and FILLMORE, a world-premiere season finale by Executive Director Richard Lambert. INHERIT THE WIND was given a fresh blast for our times in a co-production with Subversive Theatre.

The new season opened with the electric hit (and nominee for both a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award), IN THE NEXT ROOM, OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY, by Sarah Ruhl. Next up was VIVIEN, by Rick Foster. This powerful, one-woman show about Vivien Leigh starred Josephine Hogan and was a co-production with Red Thread Theatre. Kelli Bocock-Natale promised, and delivered, a fresh new spin on PETER PAN, and Joseph Natale re-visits William Inge's COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA. We promise an exciting spring collaboration with the Buffalo Soundpainting Ensemble.

In short, we look forward to an extraordinary season, and
we hope you’ll agree. With a full calendar of collaborating and
visiting artists, our board, our staff, our actors, and our sponsors are all working to make our humble, historic home into an inclusive enclave for the arts.

HOW TO STRETCH A DOLLAR BILL...

In 2011, the New Phoenix company became outright owners of its own, historic home, and is the only company in Buffalo to do so. We owe our longevity to our ability to stretch every dollar to its limit, and, of course, to our partners, donors, and friends. For just $100.00, you can purchase a Member's Pass which gives you five seats to use any way you wish and us the means to continue our artistic goals, our renovations, and our community work. It’s the best deal in town, and you'll see every dollar put to maximum use on stage and around you as our award-winning company brings you cutting edge titles from London and New York, fresh takes on the classics, and original, inter-disciplinary work.

105 BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP...

This year, we ask that you join us as a member to help us to revitalize the economic and cultural landscape of our area, to continue our service to our community, and to revitalize ourselves. Every dollar earned goes directly on stage or into improvements designed to serve our work, our audiences, and our ability to sustain ourselves in times of change. Your $100.00 membership buys you five tickets to use in any way you wish and helps us in a hundred ways.

Come see for yourself! Please join us. You can email us for more details about tax-deductible, specific gifts at newphoenixbox@yahoo.com or newphoenixbox@yahoo.com.

And welcome! We hope our historic home will become your
home for challenging theatre.
